The driver who was trapped into his cement truck, which overturned on Route 440 in Bayonne around 8:40 a.m. this morning, has been extricated and sent to Jersey City Medical Center, according to Deputy Police Chief Ralph Scianni.

The man sustained injuries to his ribs and other regions of his chest, police said.

The jug handle at 21st Street and Prospect Avenue continues to be shut down due to the overturned truck and a small diesel spill that emanated from its fuel tank, police said.

Heavy Duty Tow was notified to upright the truck, and the Hudson Regional Health Commission is overseeing the oil cleanup.

Bayonne firefighters had to remove the truck’s roof to release the man, officials said.

Traffic in the northbound and southbound directions is normal, police said.
