A Marine and Iraq veteran, David Hassan does not have his masculinity often put into question, The Daily News reports.

However, the Bayonne resident is involved in a constant struggle with Lenox Hill Hospital over a 30-year-old birth certificate typo that erroneously identifies him as female.

Guided by instructions provided by the city's Department of Health, Hassan's mother asked Lenox Hill Hospital to issue a letter citing the mistake. However, Hassan said that according to court documents the hospital would not admit the gender glitch "for liability reasons."

The hospital eventually issued a letter in 2007, stating that the information on the birth certificate was incorrect. Currently, Hassan and his lawyer, Peter Madison, are asking the court to order the city and Lenox Hill to further fix the problem.
