Staten Island Businesses Strugling
Staten Island Businesses seem to be getting hit just as hard as Bayonne. In fact, all of the New York City area is getting hit with this recesion. Marketing your New York City Business (or your New Jersey business) has never been more vital.
Living in Bayonne, I see the struggling every day. Bayonne is a major path to Staten Island, and many of my friends work in Staten Island or New York City. They have their own business, or work for other companies, but they all say the same thing. Sales are down. Nobody is buying. Even professionals like Dentists and Chiropractors are hurting. When money is tight, people are afraid to spend it on non-essentials.
So, either YOU market your business properly, or you let your competition do it, and put you out of business.
Use Google. Right now! Open another tab or window in your browser, and type in whatever search you think customers would use to find you. For example, if you have a Mexican Restaurant, type in “Mexican Food My City” or “Mexican Food My Zip Code” or “Mexican Food My City, My State”. If you aren’t on page one, who is???
Google (and Yahoo, Ask.com, Bing, etc) is the NEW yellow pages! Nobody is using the old phone book. Your business NEEDS to be LISTED!
Marketing a business is not just about Search Engine Optimization (SEO). BUT, it is the single least expensive, and HIGHEST TARGETED, advertising you can do. People who type in “Messenger Service Manhattan” are NOT looking for tires. They are looking for a specific business type. And they are looking because they want your product or service!
Other ways of marketing include the old fail-safe: Direct Mailings. BUT, sending out a coupon or ad today is almost a waste of time. It’s just “junk mail”. There are however ways of sending direct mail that actually WORK. The new-age marketing methids that work on the internet, in EMAIL marketing, work just as good, if not BETTER, than online. Of course it all comes down to the copy writing. Crappy ad copy doesn’t work! I have learned strategies for using direct mail, that can work on ANY business type, to generate customers who are READY to buy.
I mentioned email marketing there… Are you USING email marketing right now? Are you collecting customers emails in your database or customer list? Are you sending them information on a regular bassis, building their trust, and keeping your business name on their mind? Are you ginving them VALUE in the emails? This could be something with a real-world value, or just simply entertainment! Try sending your list a link to a youtube video that is FUNNY, but relates in some way to your business. These aren’t hard to find!
Youtube video… Does your company HAVE any youtube videos? WHY NOT?? You need to. This is like having free TV commercials! People always link to youtube videos on social media sites, like Facebook.
Facebook? You DO have a presence on FACEBOOK for your business, right? ANd TWITTER? You DO know what these are, right? If the answer is NO, than boy are YOU and YOUR BUSINESS in trouble.
If you answered no to any of that stuff, let me rewind even further. Does your business (no matter HOW small) even have a WEBSITE??? I sincerely hope the answer to that is yes. If not, GET ONE – TODAY! How about a BLOG? If you don’t have one, you are missing out big time.
THIS STUFF is what Marketing is all about. There are many other aspects as well. You need to bring your business into the 21st century. If you are not taking advantage of the simple things, your business will not grow. It will shrivel up, and die. GROWTH depends on NEW customers/clients/patients. Your existing customers should certainly be cared for, or they will go elsewhere! Keep the ones you have! But if your aren’t getting new ones daily, or generating leads, the future is dim.
Look, you don’t have to use Spagnolo Marketing for your business. I want you to succeed. There are plenty of people out there that can doo all this stuff for you. But I seriously suggest you re-think any type of advertising you are doing now, if you are not investing in the new standards.
